The Faculty of Hospitality Management and Catering Technology (FHMCT) was established in 1993 as M.S. Ramaiah College of Hotel Management, a part of M.S. Ramaiah Group, renowned for its excellence in professional education in India. The glorious journey of the M.S. Ramaiah Group in the field of professional and technical education began with Dr. M.S. Ramiah establishing the M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology in 1962. The group diversifies into Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, and Management Education by setting up institutions of repute in these fields. In 2013, these institutions were unified to form the Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS), focusing on multidisciplinary, outcome-based education, research, and industry collaboration. Today, the M.S. Ramaiah Group has over 25 educational institutions, multi-specialty hospitals, and advanced research centers under its umbrella.

The Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) programme offered by FHMCT is the only Hotel Management programme accredited by the National Board of Accreditation in south India.
